William Preston Johnston Society

Overview

A Society for the Recognition of Planned Giving Donors

Over 1000 people are part of a very special group—those who have notified the university that they have included Tulane University in their estate plans, through bequests and other forms of planned gifts. William Preston Johnston served as the first president of Tulane University, from 1884-1899. Prior to that time, the university was known as the University of Louisiana. During his administration, the university faculty and budget doubled, the number of students increased, and Newcomb College was founded. This was a very important era in the history of Tulane University, and we recall it through the naming of this society.

The purpose of the William Preston Johnston Society is to recognize those who have made a planned gift to Tulane University, as well as to inspire others to consider such gifts and to provide members with information on estate and financial planning. Tulane is most appreciative of its planned giving donors' commitment to a bright future for the university and of the encouragement provided by their example to support the university through a planned gift.

The club roster is printed annually in the Tulanian and, on occasion, in other university publications. Those members of the William Preston Johnston Society who have given us permission will have their names included; those who wish to remain anonymous may of course do so.

If your name should be included in the membership of the William Preston Johnston Society or you would like information about making a planned gift to Tulane University, please contact the Office of Planned Gifts.

How to Join

The following types of commitments, confirmed in writing and subject to certain restrictions, qualify you for membership in William Preston Johnston Society:

If you have already included Tulane University in a bequest or other planned gift, we hope you will let us know by filling out the member profile form. We acknowledge and respect those who wish to remain anonymous, but we urge you to let us know of your plans on a confidential basis in any case. It supports Tulane University’s planning for the future. Of course, if you have not yet included Tulane University in your plans and you would like to explore the best options for you and your family, do not hesitate to contact us. We would be glad to assist you on a confidential basis and without any obligation.

Benefits of Membership

We hope you will allow us to recognize you as a member of the William Preston Johnston Society in our annual recognition of members in the Tulanian magazine. Your inclusion in the Tulanian and other publications encourages others to join in this important effort. Also, as a member of the William Preston Johnston Society, you will receive timely information, tips, and ongoing professional gift planning services from the Office of Planned Giving.
